Social sciences ought to receive greater emphasis in pharmacy school. They would help pharmacists-in-training to understand the social, cultural, psychological, political, and economic factors that are important in the causation of human illness. The current mechanistic and reductionistic focus of pharmacy school benefits the pill-for-every-ill attitude of corporate America far more than it benefits the general public.

Continuing Education
This month's CE activity is the final offering in the year-long CPE series, Medication Therapy Management Considerations for Adult Patients with Cardiovascular Disease. From February 2014 through January 2015, pharmacists can earn up to 24 hours of CPE credit with 12 monthly knowledge-based activities from the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy and Drug Topics.
The goal of this month's activity is to empower pharmacists to engage patients with cardiovascular disease in the practices of self-management.
