Persistent pruritic rash in an 8-year-old boy
image description here An 8-year-old boy is brought to the office for evaluation of a persistent itchy rash on his extremities, trunk, and face. Although the rash has been present for longer than 3 months, individual skin lesions change from hour to hour and occasionally the rash clears completely only to recur several hours later. He is otherwise healthy with no known allergies, changes in diet, medication use, or recent illness.

BRUE in infancy does not increase risk of death
image description here A meta-analysis of 12 studies of the risk of death after a brief resolved unexplained event (BRUE) found that such an event does not increase an infant’s risk of dying during his or her first year. The American Academy of Pediatrics introduced BRUE, a sudden alteration in an infant’s breathing, color, tone, or responsiveness, as a replacement for "apparent life-threatening event" in a 2016 clinical practice guideline.
