Even high normal BMIs in adolescents increase midlife CHD risk

An elevated body-mass index (BMI) at age 17, even when in the range considered to be at the high end of normal, is strongly correlated with an increased risk for coronary heart disease (CHD) by age 40 but has less influence in the development of midlife type 2 diabetes mellitus, according to a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine. There is a significantly higher incidence of patent foramen ovale (PFO) in children with migraine with aura than in children without aura or compared with the general population, according to a study in the Journal of Pediatrics. Read full article.

No evidence to support PPI efficacy
in infants, children

Evidence does not support the use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in infants, and placebo-controlled evidence is lacking in children and adolescents, according to researchers of a systematic review.
