COLUMNS
LC TROUBLESHOOTING
Calibration Problems
Unexpected results from calibration standards create confusion in a clinical liquid chromatography (LC) method. John Dolan explains more.
GC CONNECTIONS
Review of New GC Products on the Market
John Hinshaw presents his annual review of new developments in the field of gas chromatography seen at Pittcon and other venues in the past 12 months.
SAMPLE PREPARATION PERSPECTIVES
New Sample Prep Instruments for 2015
This yearly report from Doug Raynie on new products introduced at Pittcon (or in the preceding year) covers sample preparation instruments.
PEER-REVIEWED ARTICLES
An Improved GC–MS Method for Cigarette Smoke Characterization
The development of a novel trapping system and a modified GC–MS layout (using dual chromatographic columns and cryogenic focusing devices) has enabled a major improvement in the chromatographic separation of volatile and semivolatile compounds in cigarette smoke. This improvement has led to the potential for identifying compounds that are usually masked by the solvent peak.
Large-Volume Injection with LC–MS for Aqueous Samples
Environmental sample analysis by large-volume injection (LVI) in combination with liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS–MS) is described for polar and nonpolar analytes in both aqueous samples and organic extracts.
Determination of Methotrexate and Sulphasalazine in Plasma Using HPLC–DAD
A simple and robust high performance liquid chromatography–diode array detection (HPLC–DAD) method for the simultaneous determination of methotrexate (MTX) and sulphasalazine (SSZ) from plasma is presented.
