Comparison of Compounds in Bourbon Vanilla Extract and Vanilla Flavour
This application note presents a gradient method using a core–shell column for the comparison of compounds in Bourbon vanilla extracts, as well as in natural and artificial vanilla flavours, to prove authenticity of Bourbon vanilla. By applying the KNAUER AZURA Analytical system, a very short analysis time and low eluent consumption is reached. The high speed and reliability of the method make it well suited for routine analyses in food control.

Simultaneous Determination of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) Using Integrated HPLC
This application presents the simultaneous analysis of all sixteen PAHs designated as “priority pollutants” by the US EPA using two analytical methods, one with the wavelength switching mode and the other using simultaneous measurement at multiple wavelengths.

Sample Prep
Analysis of 1,4-Dioxane Drinking Water by Solid Phase Extraction (SPE)
Due to the relatively high volatility of 1,4-Dioxane, the use of a 2 gram coconut charcoal cartridge is required for the retention of 1,4-dioxane from aqueous samples. Cartridges are then eluted with a small portion of methylene chloride, and evaporated to 1 mL. By using the TurboTrace.® SPE System, samples can be extracted in a fully automated, precise, process which produces consistent, reproducible results freeing up extraction chemists to perform other tasks.

Quantitative Analysis of EtG and EtS in Urine Using FASt®EtG and LC–MS–MS
Ethyl glucuronide (EtG) and ethyl sulphate (EtS) are conjugated ethanol metabolites formed in low amounts in the body following alcohol consumption. UCT has developed a line of products that allows for the efficient analysis of EtG and EtS in urine. By pairing UCT’s FASt® EtG SPE cartridge with a Selectra® EtG HPLC column, cleaner extracts and lower LOD’s/LOQ’s can be achieved compared to a dilute-and-shoot method.

Gingerol Purification with Centrifugal Partition Chromatography SCPC-250
Gingerol, a naturally occurring plant phenol, is one of the major components of ginger and is responsible of the characteristic taste of ginger. Centrifugal partition chromatography (CPC) also known as counter current chromatography (CCC) is a preparative, pilot, and industrial liquid purification technique that does not require traditional solid supports. CPC was used to purify few mg of gingerol from crude extract.

Characterizing Low Molecular Weight Polymers
Light-scattering is not widely appreciated as an effective means of characterizing low-molecular-weight polymers. This note demonstrates how SEC–MALS robustly determines absolute molecular weight distributions of polystyrene samples as small as 500 Da in solution, independently of column calibration or reference standards.

Understanding the Effect of Structure on Bulk Properties of Polymers
Four different polymers are analyzed by GPC/SEC to investigate the effect of molecular weight, polydispersity and molecular structure on the final properties of the polymer.

Enhanced Characterization of Allergens in Cosmetics by GC×GC–TOF MS with Soft Electron Ionization
This poster describes the analysis of allergens within complex cosmetic extracts by GCxGC-TOF MS. Despite the superior separation afforded by GC×GC, the identification of individual compounds in complex samples remains challenging when multiple compounds in a chemical class have similar spectra, or weak molecular ions. This work presents the use of novel ion-source technology to obtain complementary, simplified soft-EI spectra for full characterization of complex fragrances in a single analytical sequence.
