Featured Application Note:

Solid-Phase Extraction for the Analysis of Drugs of Abuse in Urine
Many drugs of abuse (DOA) — whether natural or synthetic — are rapidly excreted from the human body. However, some can persist for extended periods. Screening for traces of DOAs has become commonplace by analyzing human urine with liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC–MS) or gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) through derivitization of the parent compounds. Solid-phase extraction (SPE) provides an ideal extraction media for DOA compounds, as it can be performed with small sample amounts with rapid turnaround.

Separation of Pharmaceutical Metabolites with HPLC
Fortis Technologies Limited has designed its Diphenyl stationary phase to provide selectivity of difficult to resolve metabolites such as positional isomers. Small changes in the chemical functionality of a drug are quite often subtle, leading to a complexicity in achieving separation. In this application note we highlight how a unique selectivity stationary phase, Fortis Diphenyl, can aid in the simple separation of these closely related species. Maintaining good chromatography of these metabolites leads to good qualitative and quantitative accuracy.

Rapid Chlorinated Pesticides Extraction and Analysis from Poultry Fat (SPE–GC)
Pesticide contamination is not limited to produce items. Animals used for food consumption are also exposed to contaminants at levels that can be harmful to the human population. A method has been developed using SPE and GC–ECD for pesticide analysis from poultry fat. This method improves upon the traditional procedure resulting in a 75% reduction in laboratory space, a reduction of hazardous waste, and a 50% reduction in labour consumption, leading to greater laboratory productivity.
