In Memory of Roy Eksteen
It is with heavy heart that we remember our friend and colleague Roy Eksteen. Roy passed away unexpectedly on September 21, 2015, on a plane returning home from a hiking and mountain biking trip to Colorado. He was 66 years old.
Metabolite Profiling of Fine Wines
Wine is one of the most complex foods as far as its metabolomic profile is concerned. There are many different unknown metabolites that highly affect wine quality. Different bottling and storage conditions may also affect the molecular composition of wines and thus its value. In this study, learn how the Progenesis QI workflow for metabolite identification was used to determine the effect of different bottling conditions on the nutritional composition of Italian wines.

LCGC TV: Joe Glajch Part 1: Analytical Methods for Characterizing Biosimilars
Joe Glajch, a member of the LCGC Editorial Advisory Board and the director of analytical development at the biosimilars company Momenta Pharmaceuticals, talks about what is involved in characterizing a biosimilar and demonstrating comparability to a reference product.

The LCGC Blog: New On-Line Sample Preparation Combinations Challenge Routine Workflows
If you want to improve analytical methods to make them better, the sample preparation step is probably one of the best steps to target. LCGC Blogger, Kevin Schug, explains more.
VICI semi prep valve
The revised VICI Cheminert stream selection valves have an improved pressure resistance (250psi liq) and lifetime. They are vailable with 4, 6 and 8 positions. Learn More
Removal of Contaminant Peaks in Reversed-Phase Gradient Liquid Chromatography for Improved Detection of Pharmaceutical Impurities
The authors present a method for comparing the levels of baseline interference arising from common laboratory mobile phase contamination sources and assess different approaches for removing dissolved contaminants to generate interference free chromatogram baselines. This article demonstrates that recirculating mobile phase through a semi-preparative scale column using a reagent delivery pump to be more effective than previously published mobile phase decontamination methods.

Marine Pollution Analysis Using GC–MS
Marine polychaetes are a common type of annelid worm widely spread in marine environments. Raquel Fernandez from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, spoke to The Column about her innovative approach to developing an untargeted method to monitor polychaetes and assess their potential use in environmental monitoring of oil spills.

News: Measuring Melamine Exposure
Researchers from Kaohsiung Medical University in Taiwan have been investigating melamine and have shown that melamine tableware is a potential source of melamine exposure and that workers in a melamine tableware factory are subsequently at a higher risk of renal injury associated with ambient melamine exposure.
