Featured Application Note:
High-Throughput Analysis of Metabolic Stability Incubations
By Matthew Berube, Thermo Fisher Scientific
High-throughput screening (HTS) assays are commonly used in drug discovery. Compound optimization and sample analysis can limit throughput. This application note addresses LC-MS/MS optimization and sample analysis issues by using a multiplexed HPLC system and optimization software to speed throughput.

LC/HPLC
A Rapid iMethod™ Test for the Analysis Bisphenol A, Octylphenols and Nonylphenol in Water Samples
By AB SCIEX

This application note describes the use of Acclaim® Rapid Separation Liquid Chromatography (RSLC) columns (Dionex Corporation) and the AB SCIEX 4000 QTRAP® System (AB Sciex) to measure Bisphenol A in water.

ALEXYS® Polyphenol Analyzer for Food and Beverage (F&B)
By H-J. Brouwer, N. Reinhoud and J. Purkerson, Antec

With the introduction of a new dedicated Polyphenol Analyzer by Antec, sensitive analysis of polyphenols at low costs in F&B Industry has become possible in routine.

Rapid analysis of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons
Silvia Marten, KNAUER, Germany

A rapid gradient UHPLC method for simultaneous determination of 16 PAH according to EPA 610 method is presented. A baseline resolution for all 16 target analytes in less than 2.50 minutes could be achieved by using a KNAUER BlueOrchid PAH 50 x 2 mm column. A separation is also shown for 16 EPA PAH plus 3 more PAH in roughly the same time.

Is there really a difference between Flash and HPLC for LC Purification?
By L Lloyd, S Ball and K Mapp. Varian, Inc.

A wide range of instruments, columns and media are available for LC purification, ranging from flash to HPLC. This application note examines the advantages and disadvantages of using these techniques for compound purification.

Sample Delivery Flexibility for Routine Analysis by UPLC and HPLC
By Tanya Jenkins, Waters Corporation

The needle-in-flow path design of the ACQUITY UPLC® H-Class System's Sample Manager delivers high-precision injections with excellent sample recovery. This sample delivery system gives laboratories the flexibility of working with a wide range of either HPLC or UPLC® injections.

Heparin analysis and characterization
Jams Knobloch and Patrick Shaklee, Wyatt Technology

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has scrutinized LMW-heparin products closely due to their inherent variability and polydispersity. Previously, these materials had to be characterized by relative techniques involving viscometry or standard elution-based chromatographic methods.

Pegasus® 4D GCxGC-TOFMS analysis of 3-MCPD esters in edible oils
By Sjaak de Koning, Zuzana Zelinková, Karel Hrnčiřík, Hans-Gerd Janssen, LECO European Technical Centre (ETC)

Co-elution of compounds of interest with large amounts of matrix constituents, sensitivity and system stability are the greatest challenges for the analysis of 3-MCPD-ester in edible oils & fats. Here we focus on the use of LVI coupled to Pegasus 4D® GC×GC–TOFMS for efficient, more reliable and more sensitive 3-MCPD ester analysis in edible oils and fats.

GPC
Analysis of Polyvinyl Butyral by GPC Triple Detection with the Varian 390-LC Multi Detector Suite (MDS)
By Greg Saunders and Ben MacCreath, Varian, Inc.

The viscoelastic properties of PVB determine its performance; therefore the molecular weight distribution of the material must be monitored to ensure optimum performance. GPC with triple detection, light scattering detector and viscometer, may be used to determine accurate molecular weights.

Rapid Analysis of Pesticides in Difficult Matrices Using GC/MS/MS
Authors: Michael T. Hetmanski, Richard Fussell, Michal Godula, Hans-Joachim Hübschmann

This application note describes the analytical methodology for a fast multi-residue pesticide determination in a difficult matrix (fruit preserve), using the QuEChERS extraction/clean-up procedure in combination with the Thermo Scientific TSQ Quantum XLS GC-MS/MS system.
