By Mark Tardie and George Karam, Wyatt Technology Corporation

Quality and consistency in reagents is critical to successful drug discovery and development.

Eluent Optimization for Small Column Volumes
By Holger Franz, Dionex Corporation

This TN addresses the fluidic optimization of the most common UltiMate 3000 system configuration, namely the Quaternary Standard Analytical System. Its fluidic design is optimized for 3–4 mm bore columns with 10–25 cm lengths. The easiest way to optimize these fluidics for small column volumes that provide significant solvent saving potential is to install the “Viper Capillary Kit, RS system”. Further optimization possibilities with respect to sample loop, eluent pre-heater and detector flow cell are also described.

Miscellaneous
Trace-Level Aliphatic Amines in Cationic Drugs
By N. Harihara Subramanian, P.Manigandan, R. Ganeshjeevan, Ganga Radhakrishnan, A. Wille, A Steinbach; Metrohm

Monitoring levels of low-molecular-weight amines in the presence of strongly retained cationic drugs is a challenging task. In this application note Metrohm offers a solution to this problem by using coupled-column matrix elimination (CCME) to shorten analysis times, protect the column and improve selectivity and sensitivity.
