Measurement of case quality in pharmacovigilance is a relatively new development. Until pharmaceutical companies began outsourcing their case processing operations, the only measure of effectiveness of their internal operations was compliance with regulatory reporting timelines. Now that these operations are performed by vendors, over the last two years vendor management organizations within pharmaceutical companies and Health Authorities have come up with a way to measure the "quality" of Adverse Event (AE) cases. // Pfizer promoted Olivier Brandicourt to president and general manager of the company's emerging markets and established products business units. He succeeds David Simmons, who is leaving to head a CRO. Brandicourt, a member of the Pfizer Executive Leadership Team, most recently served as president and general manager of the primary care business unit. // Healthcare Data Solutions appointed Jim Stahl to senior vice president of sales. Stahl has previously worked at life sciences agencies including M3 Health and Physicians Interactive, and in pharma, at Wyeth and Rhone-Poulenc Rorer, among other companies. // Covidien promoted Gregory Andrulonis to vice president and treasurer. Andrulonis succeeds Kevin DaSilva, who will remain VP, group chief financial officer. Andrulonis comes from Tyco International; Covidien separated from Tyco in 2007 and became an independent company. // PSI, a full-service contract research organization, hired Oscar Podesta as head of Latin America. Podesta holds a degree in biochemistry from the Universidad de Buenos Aires, and was previously general manager, Latin America, at Chiltern International.
