  • A new flexible-screw conveyor from Spiroflow Systems (Charlotte, NC) incorporates a simplified direct electric motor-driven spiral screw that enables the conveyor to rotate at faster speeds than previous models.
  • Mettler Toledo (Greifensee, Switzerland) launched the Risk Check inert interactive online assessment tool that performs qualitative and quantitative analysis of balance performance and the weighing environment.
  • The Telstar Group (Barcelona) introduced an integrated, automatic system for the bulk production of freeze-dried active ingredients under isolated conditions.
  • Sartorius Stedim Biotech (Goettingen, Germany) introduced its FlexAct system, which is designed to enable biomanufacturers to use integrated, single-use equipment for all biomanufacturing steps in upstream and downstream processing.

  • Jan. 19–20: BioBusiness 2010 (London). BioBusiness 2010 is a senior-level partnering event in Europe. The event brings together roughly 2500 business-development professionals and CEOs from the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. The conference is organized to give delegates the contacts they needed to ensure essential business relationships and deals that will deliver success.
  • Jan. 19–22: Organic Process Research & Development (San Diego, CA). This conference brings together chemists and engineers from all parts of the world to discuss issues related to synthetic route design, development and optimization, and the scale-up of these processes. The invited speakers have been selected to emphasize their company’s approach to these issues with detailed case studies.
  • Jan. 27–29: Change Control (San Diego, CA). IVT’s 8th annual conference is a three-day event that brings together change-control experts and regulatory representatives who present experiences in change-control processes from the laboratory through manufacturing. Participants attend workshops in a case-study-driven format that targets the pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device industries.
  • Feb. 1–2: Pharmapack 2010 (Paris). This major European event is dedicated to innovations in packaging and delivery packaging for the pharmaceutical industry. Pharmapack 2010 will welcome the key players in the sector. More than 2200 decision makers from pharmaceutical and biotechnology laboratories, health institutions, and authorities will be present.
  • Feb. 1–2: BIOMEDevice Europe 2010 (Paris). BIOMEDevice Europe brings together professionals from leading biotechnology, medical-device, and pharmaceutical companies involved in the development and manufacturing of combination products. It offers a networking platform to key executives, engineers, and researchers looking for new partnering and enabling technologies for the future development of combination products.
