Analyzing microplastics in bottled water
Recent research determined that 93% of tested bottled water showed signs of microplastics (diameter <5 mm) contamination. A new technical note uses IR and Raman microscopy to characterize these microplastics. Using chemical image analysis of microplastics on filters can help manufacturers identify potential sources of this contamination.

Raman Depth Profiling of Laminate Sub-micron Layers
Polymer laminates are used in a wide range of industries from food to pharmaceuticals. By adhering together multiple polymeric layers of different chemistry and physical properties, a protective barrier can be achieved to suit different packaging applications. A new application note shows how confocal Raman microscopy can be used to analyze thin layer laminates for product quality control, failure analysis, and reverse engineering.
