to ambulate

THE CASE
A 6-year-old boy presents to the emergency department with left hip pain and refusal to ambulate. Three days earlier, he had complained of left leg pain, and on the following day had developed a notable limp. On the day prior to medical evaluation, the patient experienced fever (subjective report), rash, and testicular pain, and refused to bear weight on the affected side.
