with sickle cell disease

THE CASE

A 2-month-old African American girl who presented to the emergency department with
2 episodes of apnea or gasping respirations associated with feeds is admitted by your general inpatient pediatric service. She has no other associated symptoms or known injury. However, she has sickle cell disease that was detected by newborn screen.
