Fig. 01 Tooth No. 29 had distal radiographic decay and tooth No. 30 had mesial and distal radiographic decay.
Fig. 02 A sectional matrix, wedge and ring (Garrison Composi-Tight 3D XR) are placed on tooth 29. 37% phosphoric acid is used for a 15 second total etch of enamel and dentin then is copiously rinsed away with water from the air-water syringe.
Fig. 03 Riva Bond is triturated and a micro applicator will be used to apply the bonding agent to the cavity preparation.
Fig. 04 Riva Bond is placed on all of the enamel and dentin surfaces of the preparation.
Fig. 05 Riva Bond is light cured with the Radii plus curing lite for 20 seconds.
Fig. 06 A 0.5 mm increment of Wave medium viscosity flowable composite is placed as the first increment of composite to uniformly adapt composite to all surfaces of the geometric cavity preparation.
Fig. 07 Aura Bulk Fill is placed into the remainder of the cavity preparation in one increment and adapted using a Goldstein Flexi-thin Mini 4 composite placing instrument.
Fig. 08 After sculpting the occlusal anatomy, the surface of the Aura Bulk Fill is smoothed using a Keystone number 2 flat sable brush. The brush was dipped into the Riva Bond and all excess removed prior to use. This process of performing light brush strokes from the composite toward the margin prior to light curing helps to precisely adapt the composite to the preparation margins.
Fig. 09 The Aura Bulk Fill is light cured using the Radii Plus curing light for 20 seconds from the occlusal aspect and 20 seconds from both facial and lingual aspects.
Fig. 10 The same procedures are then performed on tooth No. 30. The photo shows the MOD preparation after it has been filled with Aura Bulk Fill prior to sculpting.
Fig. 11 After the MOD preparation on tooth No. 30 is filled; it is also light cured as described in Figure 9.
Fig. 12 A “needle” composite interproximal finishing diamond is used to accentuate occlusal form and remove any marginal flash prior to finishing.
Fig. 13 Rubber point abrasives (Jiffy Polishing Points: Ultradent) are used to polish the surface of the Aura Bulk Fill after refinement with the “needle” diamond instrument.
Fig. 14 A composite polishing brush (Jiffy Brush: Ultradent) is used to impart the final luster to the restoration.
Fig. 15 After application of Seal-N-Shine surface sealant (Pulpdent), air thinning, and light curing, the restorations are show completed from the occlusal aspect.
