Fig. 01 Open the CariVu software module from the patient’s DEXIS screen.
Fig. 02 Select a tooth number from the CariVu screen (you also have the option of selecting a number during image capture from the handpiece).
Fig. 03 Removing the unit from its base initiates live video.
Fig. 04 The tip is placed onto the area in question with its “arms” covering the buccal and lingual aspects of the tooth. While viewing the monitor, adjust the image by moving the device slightly as needed to obtain a clear image.
Fig. 05 When in proper position, use the “ring” capture button on the handpiece to freeze live video-easily accomplished with one hand; hold the ring down for 3 seconds to save the frozen image to the patient’s record. Clicking on the ring again re-activates live video.
Fig. 06 CariVu captures black-and-white images so they appear very similar to a radiograph. Compare frozen or saved CariVu images side-by-side to intraoral X-ray and camera images for this tooth number by clicking on the thumbnail images at the top of the CariVu screen.
Fig. 07 After use, separate the tip and handpiece. Autoclave the tips as recommended, and decontaminate the handpiece with the proper intermediate-level solution.
Fig. 08 Images are stored in the patient’s DEXimage (or intraoral camera) screen ready to be reviewed at any time. The CariVu screen can be reopened for easy comparison as described in Step 6.
