As the world population is aging, chronic diseases have emerged with long and complex therapeutic protocols and relatively complicated regimes that require increased doses of various medicines throughout the day. In the United States, it is estimated that 25% of adults have at least two chronic conditions. Chronic diseases constitute a major cause of mortality, with the World Health Organization (WHO) attributing 38 million deaths a year to non-communicable diseases.
