About the Instructor:
 |
Mark Powell, PhD, is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry with over twenty years’ experience as an analytical chemist. His PhD project involved the characterization of bitumen by chromatographic, spectroscopic, and thermal methods. He then worked for five years in the environmental industry, with responsibility for the development of analytical methods capable of quantifying very low levels of pollutants in drinking water and a variety of other sample types.
In 1997, he joined the staff of Liverpool John Moores University's School of Pharmacy and Chemistry, where he was program leader for the University's MSc in analytical chemistry. He was also active in research and consultancy.
In 2003, he joined the newly-formed Quay Pharmaceuticals, a contract research and manufacturing organisation specializing in early-stage drug development, where he was responsible for analytical development activities. From 2010 on, as Scientific Manager, Mark was involved more generally with drug development programs and also established collaborations with a number of UK universities and instrument manufacturers. His work at Quay has resulted in a number of published papers and presentations at scientific conferences.
Mark left Quay Pharmaceuticals in September 2013 to set up Mark Powell Scientific Limited. The new company offers training in analytical techniques as well as help with analytical method development and pharmaceutical CMC.
Mark is currently Honorary Treasurer of the Royal Society of Chemistry's Analytical Division. |
