Bravo - Mobile Raman Analysis for Art and Restoration Studies
|
|
|
|
|
The
analysis of artworks and other objects of cultural value can be very
challenging. Besides a non-destructive analysis the transfer of the
objects to a laboratory often is not possible, e.g. in case of large
sculptures or wall paintings, or would be highly undesirable and thus,
in-field methods need to be applied.
The
handheld Raman spectrometer BRAVO provides a great benefit
complementing Bruker’s range of mobile XRF and FTIR spectrometers.
Especially the benchtop-like performance regarding accuracy and the
highly effective fluorescence mitigation SSETM provide most unique
material information accessed by a comfortable remote control.
Learn more in our Product Note R38 about spectroscopy with the handheld Raman spectrometer BRAVO in the field of art and cultural heritage.

Quality Control of DLC Layers
|
|
|
|
|
Diamond-Like-Carbon
(DLC) coating is widely used for increasing the hardness and wear
resistance of products like tools, engines, hard-disk read heads,
medical implants and high-precision watches. One important
characteristic of the DLC coating quality is its thickness.
The
FT-IR microscope LUMOS allows a non-destructive, fast and precise
quality control of DLC coatings. Even smallest areas of samples with
structured surface can be analyzed very accurately. Furthermore the
homogeneity of the DLC coating can be measured and be visualized in
chemical images.

In Situ Molecular Layer Analysis by Vertex UHV Adaption
|
|
|
|
|
Fundamental
researchers characterize samples or monitor reactions under very
precisely defined conditions. Ultra-high vacuum (UHV) chambers are
basically required for such experimental intentions. Additionally,
interdisciplinary research needs to combine various UHV analysis
techniques. The request to adapt FTIR spectroscopy to a UHV facility
grows accordingly. Bruker’s UHV FTIR adaptation offers the solution for
such demanding applications.
VERTEX
vacuum series research spectrometers provide a better stability and
reproducibility in comparison to purged spectrometers. Especially the
VERTEX 80v vacuum spectrometer is the gold standard for high-end and UHV
adaptions. Furthermore, the adaption of vacuum chambers with vacuum
spectrometers is technically more efficient and reliable. Bruker has
successfully installed UHV-FTIR systems with various UHV suppliers.
Details see Application Note M92, Application Note M96 and Application Note M107. You can also visit our booth or poster presentation at the ALD 2017 to see the outstanding performance of the UHV-FTIR spectroscopy and our flexible UHV adaption solutions.

Analysis of Fish Oil with FT-NIR Spectroscopy
|
|
|
|
|
Marine
oils are the main source of polyunsaturated Omega-3 fatty acids.
Especially EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) and DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid)
are known to be highly beneficial to human health. Since the body is not
able to produce Omega-3 fatty acids on its own, it is essential to
supplement our diet with DHA, EPA and other valuable unsaturated fatty
acids.
To
ensure that pharma-grade fish oils and Omega-3 fatty acids meet the
strict quality parameters, a tight quality control is essential before
their release. The traditional analyses are generally carried out using
standardized chemical and physical methods, which are, however, often
designed for the analysis of only one specific parameter and tend to be
tedious, time-consuming, expensive and often require hazardous solvents
and reagents. FT-NIR spectroscopy, on the other hand is fast (analysis
time of the order of less than 1 minute) and can analyze
multi-components with only one measurement.
Learn more in our Application Note N291 about the analysis of fish oils with FT-NIR.

New Microsite Dedicated to the Analysis of Olives and Olive Oil with FT-NIR-Spectroscopy
|
|
|
|
|
The
quality of extra virgin olive oil vastly depends on the olive itself,
as it is the only cooking oil that is made by cold-pressing the fruit
without the use of chemicals and industrial refining. This makes it
expensive and thus prone for adulteration.
FT-NIR
spectroscopy offers a valuable tool for monitoring the complete
production process from the olives to the extraction process and the
finished olive oil with only one analyzer. Learn more by
